Pakistan was hit by devastating floods in summer of 2022 which has affected millions of people across the country with many losing their livelihoods and homes. The effects of these floods were mainly concentrated in Sindh and Balochistan.

Immediate Relief and Rehabilitation Services

1. National Disaster Management Authority

National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) is government of Pakistan’s institution that works on disaster risk reduction, management, relief, rehabilitation, and mitigation. If you are in need assistance after floods, you can contact NDMA on the following helpline number, 051-111157157.

2. Al-Khidmat Foundation

Al-Khidmat Foundation is provided flood and rescue services to flood affectees across Pakistan. In second stage of its disaster relief activities, Al-Khidmat Foundation is helping with reconstruction of houses, schools and mosques as well as providing farmers affected by floods with seedlings and fertilizers for their crops across the country. Besides providing aid to flood affectees for reconstruction Al-Khidmat is also providing medical and educational services.

3. Akhuwat Pakistan

Akhuwat Pakistan is providing interest free loan of up to 300,000 PKR for reconstruction of homes to flood affectees. The loans are being provided in following areas,

Medical Support

Disease outbreak in aftermath of floods or any natural disaster is very common. If there is any disease outbreak in your area, you can get help through following services,

1. Sehat Tahaffuz Helpline

If you have missed polio vaccine or routine immunization of your children due to flood, you can contact Sehat Tahaffuz Helpline on 1166 for help and assistance regarding vaccination.

2. National AIDS Control Program

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is a virus that spreads through contact with infected blood and from illicit injection drug use or sharing needles. It can also be spread from mother to child during pregnancy, childbirth, or breastfeeding. Chances of HIV spread post-flood, or any natural disaster goes high. HIV can also turn into Acquired Immuno-Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) if a HIV patients go without medication for long.

In case you suspect spread of HIV in your area, or you are a HIV patient who needs medication, you can contact National AIDS Control Program to seek guidance regarding free treatment and medication for HIV in your area. The contact information National AIDS Control Program is 0800-22209.

Mental Health Support

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a common mental health issue faced by people who have been through severely distressing situation or events. In post disaster scenarios the affectees experiencing PTSD is common. Though women are more likely to experience PTSD, there is no bound of age or gender for PTSD. Symptoms of PTSD can range from distressing dreams, mood swings, change in social habits and behavior, etc.

If you are a flood victim and experiencing any kind of mental distress or anyone around you is facing mental health issues, it is highly recommended to seek professional help. If you are unable to get access to a psychologist or psychiatrist in person, you can reach out to the following helpline.

1. Umang Helpline

Umang is a 24/7 mental health helpline. The helpline connects patients with clinical psychologist who provide therapy over phone. You can call Umang on 0311-7786264.

Protection

If you are facing any kind of violence, be it mental or physical or harassment of any kind. Or if you feel like your basic human rights and dignity being violated you can reach out to the following helplines to seek help.

1. Ministry of Human Rights Helpline

If you need any free legal advice, counseling, or legal assistance if you are a victim of any kind of violence or your human rights are being violated, you can call Ministry of Human Rights Pakistan’s helpline on 1099.

2. Rozan Helpline

Rozan provides free of cost counseling to young people, children and women on issues related to mental, reproductive, and sexual health. It also provides support to women who have been a victim of violence and harassment as well as to children who are victims of sexual abuse. You can contact Rozan Helpline on 0304-1111741.

3. Legal Aid Society

Legal Aid Society is providing free legal advice to flood affectees regarding their rights. You can contact them on 0800-70806 if you are facing any kind of difficulty and need legal advice. The society works with special focus on rights of women and children.

1. NADRA

National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) is the Government of Pakistan’s agency responsible for issuance of identity cards to citizens of Pakistan which includes Computerized National Identity Cards (CNIC), Child Registration Certificates (CRC) or B-Form, Special CNIC (SCNIC) etc. If you have lost or misplaced your identity documents during floods, you can get them renewed at any NADRA center near you.

2. Pakistan Bait-ul-Maal

Pakistan Bait-ul-Maal is run by the Government of Pakistan. It is mandated to provide financial assistance to underprivileged individuals and families. Bait-ul-Maal besides providing financial assistance, runs orphanages, women empowerment centers, rehabilitation centers for child labors and assistance to persons with disabilities (PWDs). You can get guidance from Bait-ul-Maal regarding different services they are providing by contacting them through their helpline 0800-66666 or you can find Bait-ul-Maal’s office in your district from the list on their website and reach out to them directly.

3. Pakistan Citizen Portal

If you have any complaint regarding services provisions for flood affectees or if your local authorities are not cooperating with you regarding relief and rehabilitation in aftermath of the floods, you can file a complaint directly with the Office of Prime Minister of Pakistan directly through Pakistan Citizen Portal. You can file the complaint directly online through Pakistan Citizen Portal’s website. Or you can download Pakistan Citizen Portal application on your Android phone or iPhone and lodge complaint through the application.
